Marianne Bachmeier was a German woman who gained public attention in 1981 when she took the law into her own hands and shot the man who had murdered her daughter. The man, Klaus Grabowski, had abducted and killed Marianne's seven-year-old daughter, Anna Bachmeier.
After Klaus Grabowski was acquitted of the murder of Anna due to lack of evidence, Marianne Bachmeier tracked him down and shot him in a courtroom in Lübeck, Germany. She was arrested and stood trial for murder, but was ultimately found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to six years in prison. However, she was released after serving only half of her sentence.
Marianne Bachmeier's actions sparked a nationwide debate in Germany about justice, revenge, and the legal system. Some saw her as a grieving mother seeking justice for her daughter, while others criticized her for taking the law into her own hands.
After her release from prison, Marianne Bachmeier struggled with mental health issues and was in and out of psychiatric hospitals. She died in 1996 at the age of 46. Her story was later turned into a film titled "Death of a Girl" in 2010.
